This unit is a part of Keystone Gulch
Starting on a residential street in Keystone, this trail follows Keystone Gulch at the base of Keystone Mountain. At the end, it cuts up Keystone Mountain to end at Erickson Mine and some amazing scenery. Start at Keystone Gulch Road where pavement turns to an easy dirt trail. There is a gate and kiosk at the trailhead. The first part of the trail is wide and easy as you go by houses and ski lifts that take skiers to the Keystone Ski Area.
At just under 3.5 miles from the trailhead there is a spur to the right of the trail near some beaver ponds. It crosses a shallow stream and heads up the ridge on the other side of the gulch. It is a series of switchbacks through trees that suddenly ends with barely enough room to turn around. There isn't much scenery other than pine trees, so this spur does not have much to offer other than some time in peace and quiet. Continue following the main trail and soon it turns up to the left and starts heading up the mountain. You climb above timberline and the area opens up to fabulous scenery. You can see the entire valley and mountains many miles away. A series of switchbacks carry you up to the Erickson Mine, where there are still a few buildings left standing. There is room to park and turn around in a few places.

This vacation rental is very nice and we enjoyed our stay. We were initially surprised by the long walk from the parking lot to the unit through a wandering pathway. The now had piled up high and had been pushed into some of the parking spaces so parking was difficult. The clubhouse was across the street and positioned within a neighboring set of rental properties so also difficult to find. But once we found the condo and the clubhouse both were very nice. One thing that made the vacation more difficult is that we had only 1 key. We thought the property would be convenient along the shuttle route allowing people in our party to come and go at different times, but we only had 1 key, so it made this difficult. My daughter would have come back to the condo early but had to wait in the lodge for hours because of this. When I called to ask for more keys, we were offered more and I had to drive to the property management office to pick them up. We got 3 keys as requested, but when I got back to the property, only 2 of them actually worked. It would have made the stay more enjoyable for those who wanted to ski less and come back to the condo if they had keys. We have stayed in other properties where the unit has a lock box by the front door with a code so you can keep one key there for anyone to use as long as they have the code. I would suggest you set up a key system like this. For a 3 bedroom unit with lots of people coming and going, this would make more sense. The condo itself was very nice and we would consider renting here again and we would make sure we had enough keys for everyone. Thanks!
Keystone and Dillon are the two major towns in this location, and both offer a ton of amazing things to do no matter what the season! There's obviously some great skiing in the area, and hitting up the Keystone Ski Resort, Columbine Ski & Sport, Dercum's Dash on the Mountain, the Loveland Ski Area, or the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area will get you out skiing or snowboarding on some beautiful slopes. The area also features amazing hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, kayaking and canoeing, and more. Some great outdoor spots you should be sure to hit are Dillon Reservoir, Marina Park, Loveland Pass, Guanella Pass, and the Snake River. Dillon also has a nice little Farmer's Market, and the area has great indoor activities too, including the Lake Dillon Theatre Company, the Dillon Amphitheater, the Snake River Saloon, and Pug Ryan's Steakhouse and Brewery. For the history-minded, the Dillon Schoolhouse Museum might be more your style. The area also features horseback riding tours, spas, great bars and restaurants, bowling, golf courses, and the beautiful Keystone Lake.
